Fantastic fish but can I ask a question about the text below it?

It says 'Read more ...' and yet when I click on the link it just takes me to the gallery page and there is nothing about this capture. Why is this? I've been meaning to ask this for some time as it has been like this as far back as I can remember.

thanks guys, yeah the photo is ****.tried a setting on my camera that takes interval shots instead of having to keep putting the fish down and going back to the camera and pressing the timer each time.I'm always consious of the fish's welfare,so this was the quickest way to take more than a single shot.Unfortunately the camera didn't like so many shots being taken one after the other with a flash. The camera is a Pentax Optio W90.Any advice would be appreciated.

Nigel...Not sure of your version of the camera you have, but it does seem to have a 'remote' accessory that you can buy as an extra. That would make it a lot easier for you, or of course if not, get a friend out to take the pictures for you, especially with the calibre of fish you are catching which are all very important at this time. Best Regards and well done. Here are a couple of quick searched links with the infra red remote.

Hi Nigel,

Super fish fella, To say you are on a roll is putting it mildly...Mr. Kings record looks more vulnerable every day at the rate your PB is going up :D My heartiest congratulations...and keep 'em coming!

As far as the photo goes, I can offer no advice as my camera skills are cr@p. However, take a look at your picture and think how it looks to another person. You have caught a huge, stunning fish...a fish of a lifetime, one to be proud of. Sadly, you have held it out towards the camera, which is set on wide angle, so it looks like a great white shark being held by a man with embarrassingly large hands :D

It's all a matter of choice Nige...and we have all done it at some stage, some of my pictures make me cringe for the very same reason....because it is a natural thing to do. However, when you think about it, it doesn't do you or the fish any favours, and does raise instant suspicion in some more cynical types :D This is honestly not intended as a criticism mate, just an observation...being as how you asked :p

Cheers, Dave.

It does look like the camera of that high spec should not be able to produce lower quality images. Seems it is on a wrong setting and producing 'Bitmap' like photos/images to where the high definition and resolution is being lost, or maybe in the way they are downloaded to the computer, possibly automatically changing format from original jpeg image or other.

Thanks for your advise Dave on holding the fish.I tend to rest my elbow on my thigh to keep as steady as possible.so not sure i'm hoding the fish out that far.The camera is probably a meter away.Do you think thats too close?............Thanks for the link Ray,i'll look into the remote idea. Not sure how i'm gonna use it though whilst steadying the fish but its good idea.
I've been playing with the settings on my recent night time sessions and think i may have got it set better now.Just havn't caught anything to road test it properly.lol

The 'Read more' link is permanently there. Sometimes people add more detail when submitting a picture, so there's something extra to read. In this case there isn't...

Fantastic fish Nigel :)

Cheers,

Nigel must be having to leave for the river out of the back door, driven away at speed and hidden under a blanket, whilst a decoy driver leaves from the front. There must be a 'Nene Circus' down there!

What a season you're having Nigel. You're definitely in the top 10% ;)

Fantastic fish Nigel - you're on a bit of a roll! :)

Yes! Perspective coming into play there rather than the old telescopic arms! I tend to adopt a similar position - but with the camera further back, around 2m. Below is an old home page image from a few years ago - similar pose, but with the camera further back, fish is a bit lighter too, although at 34" long it wasn't small!

Nigel...You can usually set the self timer as usual and use the infra red remote to set it off, giving plenty time to get ready, without putting the fish down and coming back and forth to the camera.

Justin...is 'one spot' your 16.2 or another resident?:)

I actually saw the story in Angling Times on Tuesday and was wondering when you would post the pics on here.

Fantastic fish man, on the back of the previous trio of 16lb'ers, you're having a run of a lifetime.

Very well done and congratulations if the fish turns out to be a new river record:D

Congratulations, Nigel, on a fantastic catch. It's pretty obvious you're not holding the fish out that much, looking at the bend in your elbows. The fish should be the focus, not the photo, and I hope the capture lives long in the memory. You're on a great run, and long may it continue..... :)
