Harrison rod Torrix or Chimera

I am thinking of buying a couple of barbel rods 12ft 2 piece 1.75lb tc to be used on rivers such as the Ribble. They would be used in normal flows with a feeder or weight, for floods I have a couple of Harrison snag and flood rods.
Which would be best suited for this use the Torrix or Chimera?
Pros and cons for each would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I have been to see Mick at Kingfisher rods today and before I decide which to buy I wondered if there were any shortcomings in either rod.

I initially considered getting Chimera barbel rods solely based on having used Chimera carp rods for a good few years and loving them to bits.

I'm so glad my rod builder persuaded me to go for the Torrix though as they are superb rods, fabulous action and a real pleasure to use.

Not trying to be contentious, but can anyone explain why either the Torrix or Chimera would be a better buy than say a couple of cheaper Drennans or Wychwoods?

I have a Wychwood Rapier at 1.75 a rare rod and now discontinued, also Drennans Power twin top and Specialist 1.75, they seem to me to be excellent rods without costing a small fortune, however not ever have owned a Harrison perhaps someone can advise what I am missing ?

You live by where I work. If you wish to borrow my Torrix you are welcome! I often find cheaper rods can have good blanks but the fittings let them down. I am also a bit of a tackle tart! Seriously though love the Torrix and if you want a play try them out and let us know!

Cant comment on the chimera apart from chim3 I use for floods but I have two torrix 2tc which are excellent rods on the ribble, sensetive to detect small bites in the tip with plenty of power in blank to cast 4+ feeders out loaded.

Do you use four or more feeders at the same time to get a decent bed of bait down quickly Paul?

Cheers, Dave.

I'd go for the Chimera.

I had a couple of 12 foot Torrix 1.75lb rods made for me a few years ago and I've also got a older Chimera 2. I prefer the playing action on the Chimera and it's feel is much more sensitive. No doubt the Torrix is a superb all-round rod, but for fishing medium sized rivers with normal tactics I feel over-gunned with it. You won't punch out a 5oz feeder as far with a Chimera but is that the point?

That's good of you Andrew:) I would love to give them a go, what about we meet at your fav peg on the Avon? Just for a testing purposes you understand:p

But I do take what you say the finish is everything on such rods, but I also like the 'understated' look of tackle, so apart from the fittings what about the actual blank? I guess that must be pretty much the same as some of the better 'off the peg' rods?

its down to individual preference, I prefer I-powers to Torrix's that Bob has made for me, if you havent tried one you should !

I like Harrison blanks. Very well designed using a blend of carbons to produce what is required. Then choosing the finish and fittings so it is personalised is great. I have spent to long just looking at the rods this Summer but when I have hooked one it is a joy to use. Totally agree with the 'understated', don't want to be fishing with something that looks like a prop from big fat gypsy wedding, gold all over and sparkly bits on the rings! We'll meet for the sole purpose of testing. :p Send me a PM and we can arrange a time.
