Harrison Chimera question

Luke Hodson

Senior Member
I have a pair of Harrison built Chimera Specialist rods I use during the summer months and although not marked I have always thought them to be about 1.5lb test curve.
I bought these many years ago before the rods kicked off in a big way and started being numbered versions i.e. Specialist no 1 at 1.5lb TC and Specialist no 2 at 1.75lb TC etc.

Would anyone here be able to tell me what test curve these rods might be?

Luke, why not attach it to your scales and pull the rod to 90degrees and check the reading ? alternatively hang on for our our master rod builder Bob to come back to you

1.75 tc Luke, same blank as the Chimera 2 as far as i know, had a pair built for me by Yateley angling when they first came out.

Richard, I did try to bend the rod to 90 degrees as suggested but without a jig and sighting lines its very subjective as to what the rod is.

Thanks Simon I was hoping to hear from somebody who may have bought some when they first came out, Im still waiting on Harrison replying to my email but hopefully a definitive answer soon, it wouldn't surprise me if the were 1.75lb they are strong rods with a nice tip.,

He's here - taking a break from concrete mixing! - Hope you are well Dickie.
Sounds like a Chimera 2 to me at 1.75lb test. Pretty sure that they were called/labelled as Specialist when they first came out, before the numbers came along. I built myself a pair when they first came out, but retired them when the Torrix came along some years later. Great rods.
Cheers
Bob

Thanks guys I appreciate the replies and your help, the only down side is that on paper I don't have any gaps in my rod collection now, however I'm sure "want" and "need" will battle it out and end up with me getting new rods and of course new reels too:D
