gti barbel rod

hello everyone ,ive just purchased an 11ft 2lbtc harrison gti rod for small river work ,im very impressed whith the rod but it seems a little flimsey next tp my usual triptych.If anyone has experience with this model iwould be very gratefull for any info regarding maximum line strengths,casting wheight etc etc.many thanks,Jim
 
James i have a GTI 12' at 1.5 and 1.75 TC built by Roger on the Harrison blanks - mainly use the 1.5 for the small rivers (by which i max 4 rod lengths) with 10lb bs line - it is a joy and had a 12 this week with it - lots of reserve power but also sensitive. Casting 2oz no problem but then i never use more than an underarm chuck.

I am surprised you find it flimsy compare with your tryptich, I own both an 11ft GTI and a tryptich and I would say the GTI is easily the more powerful rod, both in terms of the tip and the butt section. Both great rods though

Just out of interest is the rod you are referring to the one that came up for sale recently on EBAY last week and was built by DLST?

If so then the blank has been ground down which will have softened the action a fair bit - but not enough to make it lighter than a tryptych I wouldn't have thought.

Also that rod had SS 'something' enscribed on the blank, which AFAIK stands for 'Standard specialist' which I'm pretty sure is a different blank to the GTI - but I'm sure one of the rod builders on here will be able to put to you straight on that. Failing that then contact Dave Lumb himself.

That's if it is the rod I think it is...

I have 11ft GTi rods, nominally 2lb tc but were conservatively rated at 1.75lb. I use 20lb PowerPro braid.

These are known as the "paul4 barbel rod" :) I built the originals (prototypes) and use them all of the time, they have unground blanks (the ridges are still there from the manfacturing process). I also have the first Peregrine built model which is on a smooth blank.

I use these on small and big rivers alike, all with a centrepin, and have had barbel from 6oz up to 16-02

Great rods for sure, I would replace with the same if anything ever happened - that was an "almost" a week or so ago when I tripped and fell down the bank with quiver over my shoulder, but managed to avoid snapping or damaging them, phew :)
 
joe thats the one,cant say im dissapointed whith its lovely peice kit,just expected it to have alittle more backbone.will give it a good workout tommorow ,having a day trundling,hope i can christen it with 1 or 2
