Greasy duplon cleaning - any tips?

I`ve only got one rod with duplon, picked it up cheaply but it`s a nice old carbon Simpsons tenchfisher 1 which make a good chub rod. The handle isn`t badly marked but above the reel & a bit below it`s gone shiny & appears more compact. I think it might have got `filled in` with greasy hands from meat or similar. I`ve tried a gentle scrub with fairy liquid with no success & wondered if a more aggressive detergent like engine cleaner or oven cleaner or even a solvent like brake cleaner would work. Trouble is I`ve no other handle to have a mess about with & don`t want to damage or dissolve it!
Any tips gratefully received!

Duplon and EVA degrade over time. Strong detergent wash can help and in the odd case have used a solvent wash to fair effect. Also have turned the handle down on a lathe to 'restore' the handle. Some cleaners can taint the handle with a smell that's hard to get rid of.

I use Back to Black the stuff that is used for car plastic trims, works a treat.

Just for a laugh, i used to spray some on the back seat of my cab, it was so funny watching the passengers in the rear view mirror, sliding from side to side. :D:D:D Its full of very slidy silicone. ;):) But i've grew up now in my old age. :p
