Gluten

I want to buy some gluten for mixing into my pastes but can't find any other than on-line with £6 per kilo postage.

Any ideas where I can get some gluten?

Try one of the specialist Chinese/Asian/Japanese speciality food stores. Or, possibly the Holland & Barrett type places may stock it.

Neil, find a tackle shop that sells "Cats and Dogs" bait. They,ve just brought out a new range of additives including ? yes you,ve guessed it. " GLUTTON " :)

Oops, typo error, that should have been " GLUTEN "

Neil,
Richworth do it in, I think, 250g or 500g, which is perfect because you only need to add a very small amount. Another tip, and this may be obvious, but make sure you mix it well with whatever base mix you are using before adding the eggs. I occasionally add it to my paste mix and find that it helps make the paste a bit more elastic, for want of a better discription. I prefer it to just making a stiffer mix without the gluten. Your local Richworth stockist should be able to help.

I used to use it in my PYM floater loaf mix way back in the 70's along with calcium casinate...makes it go like a rubbery sponge and makes the floater very resistant to smaller fish attention...You should be able to buy it from a health food shop or bakery supplier...

If anybody is interested the floater mix was : 5 oz calcium casinate..1 oz gluten...1 oz PYM [Phillips Yeast Mix] 1 oz soya flour....six eggs...cooked for about 30 mins in oven if I remember rightly !!...I haven't made it for years.
