Gardner spoon net user anyone?

Julian, it doesn't have a "spreader" block as such. But what I think you are refering to is made of alluminium on the Gardner spoon net. It is a bit of a weak point, though not bad enough that I have given up on mine, yet.

Julian,

It's an aluminium block which is plastic coated. Gardner have advised that these blocks had the holes drilled slightly too large to grip the screws firmly enough (and the screws are too short anyway). All I did was take them out and fill the holes with superglue and then put 2 more substantial screws in. It's now fine.
Other than that issue it's a great net IMO.

Cheers,

Neil

Hi men,

The holes on the speeder block are ****. On 3 ( mine and 2 mates) the screws have fallen out causing trouble when fishing , so best resolve it before it happens. I used a larger self tapper , sorted , but seemed like someone should have pulled them from the shops when it become a problem!.

If you take note of all of the comments made you should have yourself a very good net. I had exactly the same problems but luckily noticed the fault before i made it to the bank and rectified it accordingly. Other than that the gardner barbel spoon is a very good net but as in the previous post, i dont understand why this was never noticed during manufacture.

Tight lines

Mine lasted about 3 trips!

Replaced it with a similar one from Korum and that is still going strong after over 300 barbel.

Gardener net is great other than the screws in the spreader - do what hatter says and redo them and even use a bit of glue.

No dramas once the screws are sorted out. Goes nicely with my Drennan Specialist landing net handle that I'm careful not to overtighten!;):D

Another vote for the Gardener spoon net. You don't even have to change the screws, just araldite the original ones and you won't have any problems.

The korum net is the one to avoid imo, the screw fitting failed on mine.

Have one myself, not had a problem with it and very light. Very good landing net.

The thread snapped on mine, which obviouly made the net useless....anyone else have this trouble?

Bought a old Whitlock spoon frame from ebay £7 delivered 1000% better than all the other spoon's mentioned in this tread. Also had a Insight spoon which I sold on the BFW classified's due to fact I never really used it. If you really want a net to last more than 5 min dip your hand a little deeper and buy the Insight at £50+ it might seem dear but will last you years. Also another point if you have one of the offending nets do the suggested mods now before your net comes apart when your trying to land your pb!

Thanks very much for the info - Idon`t understand why a company like Gardner with a reputation for quality stuff doesn't spec. something in stainless steel which might take a screw thread effectively.
I`ll have a look & get out the loctite if I get one. Thanks again!
