Frozen rod rings

How do you keep ring from icing up. I believe Glycerin helps. Is there an applicator that does this...?

Bob, Glycerine is available from the baking isle of any supermarket. You will find it with the little bottles of food colouring, it's used as an ingredient in royal icing.

It's a clear, sweet, viscous liquid, you can also add flavours to it and use it as a bait dip.

its the human food equivalent of a boilie base mix, lots of different applications, i.e. the 2 comments above, and also used as a carrier in a lot of liquid medicines. As for your rod rings, just pour a bit on your fingers/cloth, then rub onto the rings.

Great tip guys, never heard of this one before. Was having serious problems with the rings freezing over on Thursday morning. Thanks

use an eye dropper to put a blob of glycerine on each ring,im going to need it tomorrow:eek:

When the glycerine starts to freeze it's time to book yourself in for a fitting of a jacket with really long sleeves and buckles up the back.;):D

Been Boots today for Glycerine & dropper bottle. Trying it out tomorrow.

trouble is it get really goowey on your spool & i dont know about perrising your line, i know it doesent effect mypole elastic

I put it on with a cotton bud, Its important to put it on to dry rings before you thread the line through them.

If you put it on after the rings have started to freeze up is does not work quite so well.

I stayed ice free through the first hour of my fishing on the float today purely because I treated dry rings before I started.

Tight Lines.

Take the wife with you.......She dries the rings for me, all I do is reel in on each cast, grab the hooklink, then swing the rod top to her for her to wipe down for me............only joking she just caught me typing this comment lol......oouch

Ha ha, nice one. LMAO:D

used my glycerine yesterday on the Dee it was a bite a chuck baitdropper froze to my tackle box though:)

only problem i found with the glycerine was that i had to keep applying it, as it comes off easily or at least it used to when I was still mad or young enough to go when it was that cold but now the otters have eaten most of the fish :)

glycerine is the best bet but another one which I have used in the past is WD40 spray and that works also, but apply this BEFORE you start to fish it will last just as long as glycerine depending on the severity of the conditions.
