Frozen Boilie storage.

Hi chaps.

I go through the trouble of making my own baits. It's a bit of a time consuming thing, doing it by hand without guns tables etc. But I only make 4 egg mixes at a time, so it's not too bad.

I've found, be it large baits or small, they get a bit frost bitten over time whilst in the freezer.

I air dry them for about 10 12hrs too.
Then pop them into zip food bags.

What's the best way of safeguarding against that issue, if any please?👍

I think it's freezer burn mate, try wrapping the food bag in a towel see if that helps, I've never took much notice to it and used them regardless but I'm sure I read somewhere a few years ago it's from the pack touching the sides of the freezer and other frozen stuff.

Exactly how I do it aswell.
I’ve even made em in the morning and taken them in the afternoon with just 3-4 hours air dry time.
Freezing them is another process that’s very unkind to a boilie so use em while they are at their best and keep the freezer for the unopened base mixes
 
If you need to freeze do t worry about further oils etc

Get your self a cheapish vac machine of Amazon and vac them that will nearly eliminate your issue entirely as long as you get all the air out and a nice vac round the bait.

Been doing that for years now :)

Mine are sent to me in vacuum packs. Straight into the freezer and no issues with freezer burn. Not that it worries me.
 
Vac seal all day long -


Being Carper scum I usually order 3-4 boilie diameter sizes each in a 10kg bag then mix them up into 1kg batches - I find the dimpled 20x30cms pre sealed bags are ideal for this although if you buy a roll and your sealer has a cutter you can vary the bag sizes more easily

Def makes more space in your bait freezer - you can also vac seal fresh and they'll keep for a few weeks in the fridge without turning no probs
Softish boilies can lose shape but I like this as they come out looking like geodesic spheres which create a point of difference (multiple flat faces)

You could even try sous vide boilies to see if that keeps in more nutrients at the boiling stage!
 
I buy a couple of kg of boilies and vacuum pack them in batches of 15 for a session never get any freezer burn and they last a season
