Fraudulent EBay activities

Please be aware of fraudulent EBay listings currently doing the rounds on eBay. If it looks like a bargain it might not be as seems. Lots of listings appearing from China offering specimen traditional items listed dirt cheap. Please be vigilant.

Can you give us a bit more info. Most things listed on Ebay from China are always dirt cheap.
To date, i may have just been lucky and been happy with my purchases. But lately, i have noticed a few used rods being sold by a seller in China with free delivery to the UK. His feedback was zero.

It's basically second hand gear like cane rods centrepins job lots of gear shimano baitrunners. Basically if you see a bargain check country of origin if no feedback do not buy.

The listings mentioned are not the property of the Chinese sellers - they're cut and pasted from genuine items that have already been sold on eBay by legitimate UK sellers.

The Retro Tackle Facebook group members are pretty good at spotting these (especially when some of them are the original and genuine sellers) and quickly report each one as fraudulent as they appear.

How quickly they're removed is, of course, up to eBay.

My ebay account was scammed recently, someone from Tetbury posted up two items for sale on my account, a Porsch 911, and a Kabuta tractor  Odd thing I used to live in Tetbury but I never did had a 911 or a tractor, more is the pity.

And lots of Normarks, old Daiwas, expensive older gear

All postage free and with stupid buy it now prices and sending from china. Ebay are taking them down, I haven't seen one for a couple of days

They're usually pretty obvious - as has been said, from China, low buy it now price etc. Another good clue is if there is just a single photo. If in doubt, do a search on that item including completed listings and you'll probably come across the original (genuine) auction which has already finished, with exactly the same photo and description.

I report every one I come across, but it takes several days before they're taken down.

Sadly some people fall for the scams, noted that Clive's first link shows that the rods are sold on a buy it now.

Just done a "fishing" search on Ebay. Why would someone in China be offering a days fishing on the UK waters?. The seller had surprise surprise no feedback. If the seller is kosher i bet there is a good bit of loading on top of the true price. Ok ive seen holidays in France and Spain offered but these were from the owners of the waters or organisations.

This is ridiculous - take a look at this eBay item.. 182565341234. Surely no one will go for this?! But tempting at the price just to take a look

I reported two Shimano Baitrunners yesterday...they were 'Buy Now' at about 25% of the price you would expect.
