Fox tackle selling up...

That is interesting. I've always had Zebco down as cheap tat but I believe they're very popular in America??

I'm totally uninterested in who owns who, or who buys who. However, as someone that might have been a little wary of Fox branded stuff until the last year or two, it'll be interesting if they maintain their recent standards of quality and product innovation.

Thats what I meant lol. I knew that there was a connection (realised that they were nothing to do with the shooting brand).

Hi men,

Many moons ago when fox first produced their buzzer range I perchased 4 fresh to the market . They went wrong immediately , due to battery leakage !. Not great for a product that was their flagship , and due to be used in extreme conditions !. Funny , as delkims had just come out , and I went for the wrong option :( .
I was due to take part in a big carp match at Horseshoe lake the next weekend , and was furious :D , and let them know it !. To his credit mr Fox himself sent me his own set to use until the modified design buzzers arrived , good service , and I will always remember that !. I did change to delkims , which can't be beaten , and came second in the carp match , beaten with 25 mins to go !

I wonder if the sales includes matrix...as this brand to me appears to be marketed as a separate entity than that as the fox machine.

Anyone seen the news that Grant Albut (matrix angler) has purchased Shatterford lakes?

Even if it happened they would still trade under the same name its only the owners what would be different. quality will remain the same!!!

I feel that those brand names under the 'pure fishing' banner bear little resemblance to the companies they once were....I doubt that you could give a Shakespeare rod away today from their current range, the quality being that poor from that of 20 years ago.
I also think that Hardy and Greys have lacked the quality that the brand once reflected for a good few years now.

Frequent a more general match/coarse fishing forum and you might have to reappraise that idea. The Mach (1/2/3) ranges of both rods and reels are surprisingly well regarded. Personally, I've had a wholly unfair and quite irrational aversion to the brand which stretches back to the eighties!;):D

OMG, I thought it was just me Chris.

I grew up with Shakespeare gear! I loved the brand but I doubt that any rod from their range in the last 5 years will be coveted like those from their past. Would you take a current mach rod over that from the President series?
Pure fishing hold brands with Abu. JRC, Shakespeare and Mitchell to name but a few...I don't think any of these companies have set the world on fire over the last decade with innovative products. Mitchell - will we hold their current reels with the same regard as the match 440a or 300's?

440a best reel made by mitchell.

There's a few of us about. ;):D I've noticed that those with such an aversion are often of a fairly similar and quite narrow age group. They must have produced some fairly memorable junk in the early to mid eighties!;):D

As did I. It's where my aversion stems from.

My aversion runs so deep that I'd not have either. As I said, there's a surprising amount of fervour for the Mach series rods of the last couple of years.

You are barking up the wrong tree on that score. I'd have given my eye teeth for a 440a in the early to mid eighties. By the time I could afford to buy one I'd not have been thankful for one as a gift. They were awesome in their day, that day has long passed. I don't get the reverence in which they are still held.

Can't say I've had a problem with any of the Chub gear I own and imo far better value for money than the more recent Hardy gear
