Fox royale 2.25 specialist barbel rod

I am absolutely gutted that I have over tightened the reel grip on one of my beloved fox 2.25 tc barbel rod and was hoping that maybe anyone on the forum had one for sale or even a but section, the other alternative is to have a new reel fitting fitted so if anyone has any recommendations to get this done would appreciate any info. I know that these are not top end rods but to be honest I love em and just don't want to lose them. I did try to step up to the fox horizon x4 2.75s last year but after a couple of broken tip sections casting 4oz leads quickly assigned them to fleabay
 
They are just a screw down seat
you can get a Fuji dps replacement but if you want a matching pair you’ll have to get both done.
It’s not going to be cheap mind if you get a builder to do it. as it’s a complete strip down of the but section pretty much and some cork to replace which is expensive nowadays. You’ll probably end up roughly paying for the rods again.

Thanks Richard I might look at getting the one butt section repaired in the close season, at the moment it's usable with a bit of care , I'm not to bothered about them not being identical as I would still benefit from in my opinion the superb action of the rod, hopefully a butt section or a used one may come along.Thanks for your advice Richard.👍

The reel seat itself is actually cheap. Even Fuji ones are not particularly expensive.
The cost will be pulling the rings off and re applying them and any cork pulled off and replaced as well.

cheers Richard, will try and get the season over and hopefully get a second hand section failing that I think I will have a go myself as am quite good with my hands or so the Mrs used to say lol ,I did say used to lol ,nothing to lose everything to gain as they say .
 
Hi Paul. You say that you are quite handy, I would urge you to have a go. The parts needed(Tacklebox, Dartford) are surprisingly cheap and there is plenty of advice/videos on line. I started off by fitting a screw reel fitting on an original John Wilson Avon rod (sliding bands) 30 odd years ago, I’ve built all of my Beach, Carp and Barbel rods since. From memory the rod blank is a ground and not lacquered, so the only epoxy finish needed would be for the one or two guide whippings. Several coats of PU varnish could prove an acceptable substitute. I find it to be extremely satisfying to use rods that I have crafted and be asked on the bank” where are they from”. A word of caution however, it’s very addictive. With the eye watering cost 😱 of blanks to Joe public and the tools and paraphernalia that I’ve accumulated, I could probably employ one of the custom builders for a similar cost. The quality may be higher, but there wouldn’t be the satisfaction . If you decide to have a go, then good on yer. I am certainly not a “rod builder” but have picked up a little knowledge along the way and happy to share. There are certainly some on here far more qualified to advise 😜👍.

Thanks for your reply Kevin,that looks to be the way I'm likely to go , will have a look at tackle box with a view to obtain a new seat ready to proceed in the close season . I know it may seem a little strange to make all the fuss over a middle of the range discontinued rod but I'm sure that anyone who has got one will understand.

Paul. In a senior moment I directed you to the Tacklebox site. They do indeed carry all the bits needed but are my local source. Probably the country’s largest rod building suppliers are Guidesnblanks, Studley,Warwickshire. If they don’t stock it, it probably doesn’t exist.

I'm not 100% sure on this but I've a funny feeling that the current Eos barbel is a rebadged version of the Royale, in which case the butt sections should be interchangeable. You'd have different logos but it might be another option worth pursuing, there are also spare sections on ebay atm. Worth checking out as an alternative route🤷🏻‍♂️

Thanks Stewart on the strength of you confirming what my cousin had been telling me since my problem occurred I ordered two fox eos 2.25 rods this afternoon from st Ives tackle for less than £100 and if your right and I have a good feeling on this it will be a bargain and I'll be over the moon .

Fingers crossed it works out for you. I'm lead to believe that the Warrior, Royale and Eos were all built on the same blank, they certainly do all look similar.
 
just a catch up on this thread, the fox eos rods arrived on Wednesday morning and a big thanks to st Ives tackle for the excellent service, anyway they look to be identical to the royals with the rods being rung exactly the same but did remove the top rings and refitted with anti frap rings which I personally find far superior I then put the new and the old rod up side by side at an angle of about 30 degrees and tied a 10oz weight on each with a bit of line and to be honest the curve was as near as dammit identical so maybe they are the same blank as Stewart suggested anyway it gives me a bit of breathing space to get to close season to do the repair to my beloved royales ,I know they are not free spirit or basias or whatever but they hold memories for me .Thanks to all that replied.👍👍
