Flood feeders.

I’ve got a lovely set of 6 feeders that I’ve made with flood fishing in mind.
my custom camo muddy green colour which closely matches the colour of all the crap that builds up on your lines.
ive gone with 4.5oz in weight which baring the tidal trent is about ideal for most rivers carrying a good bit of extra water.
ive made them with the ability to put out a large capacity of bait per cast. Flood conditions tend to wash a lot of what we put in away quickly so the more you get in per cast the better. You can also get a good bag full of fish in these conditions if you fish it well so again another reason for the high bait capacity
ive also coated them quite heavy to cope with a good bash or two and should they get snagged the frames will bend when you pull for a break and hopefully return to you for you to straighten and recast.
my idea of a near perfect flood water feeder.

They look great Richard.

Any plans to make any heavy duty maggot feeders?
I get asked for them Joe but they need some thought.
I don’t like the way others do them with capping off cages. Far too many holes for maggots to escape from before you even get it out in the river.
going the drilled plastic tube route would mean separate clipped on leads which again not my thing personally and the most important thing is they’ve gotta be quick to make to be able to offer them at sensible prices. If I can’t make a feeder start to finish in under 10 minutes then it’s definitely not worth it for me.
so I know others do them in there own ways I just need to find my way which will come. Just not at the moment

Totally agree regarding cages, not for me. Let me know if you develop something 👍

I’ve got an idea
Completely different to anything out there but could actually work really well.
could be quite quick to make too. Materials a little more expensive so price would have to compensate for that.
I’ll get a prototype knocked up at some point and send it you for your opinion

Sounds interesting Rich, I look forward to finding out more!

It’s a very different approach regarding the items used to produce them but the principle of making them remains similar.
im not 100% convinced by the idea so I’m giving nothing away until the first one rolls off the bench.
Adjustable holes a handy feature I've found.

Although they didnt have adjustable holes, there was a range of maggot feeders that Preston produced for a while, that would have great for barbel fishing if they been bigger, heavier and with a longer stem. Known as the Quick load feeder. Use the 45g ones for tench all the time.

I’ve got no intentions of fancy stuff or reinventing the feeder.
not making adjustable holes or trying to complicate something that if it works I’ll sell afew of.
They’ll be simple block end feeders with robustness and big rivers in mind.
like I say. I don’t like too many holes for maggots so cages are out.
I don’t like clip on weights I like all in ones
I don’t really like flexible plastic houses.

It’s not going to happen Joe. The cost of materials and the length of time extra to make it work would kill it completely. I was going to look at setting lead in thin walled aluminum box section with end caps and drill to suit. Then coat.
But it’s not going to be a starter for me. The concept works but no where near the price point.

No worries Richard.

Out of interest, what would the price have needed to be for it to wash its face?

Cheers,

Joe

I can put a £3 feeder together in 10 mins
These take 3x as long and cost 2x as much so we’d be looking at £15 a feeder
Blimey - that's one expensive feeder!

Still, if I win the lottery at least I know where I can get some decent maggot feeders made!

Thanks anyway 👍
