Float rods

Morning , has anyone used any of the korum glide float rods ? I know there cheap and cheerful, and generally you get what you pay for , with regards to quality.
Bobco tackle got them on for under £40 at the moment, I was wondering if there worth a go . Thanks .

Got the 12/14' one when they came out OK at 12', very tip heavy at 14'.
Don't have it now.
If you can have a look/waggle of one in a tackle shop make your own opinion.
 
Not the glide but I tried the tacklebox 13ft specimen float. Thought id try to stop being a rod snob. It felt horrible and went straight back in the post. I had been considering the glide but I’m just going to wait and save up for a second hand acolyte plus, even if it takes 6months.
 
Bought the 12ft/14ft Glide on a whim when they first came out. At 14ft with the dolly extension it's not a comfortable rod at all, it's much better at 12ft particularly with one of my heavier centrepins.

I have a collection of float rods, mostly quite old models. I try to give them all an outing or two each season but my Acolyte 15ft Plus is the absolute stand out example (5 times the price of the Glide).
 
The 12ft for that price seems ok to put in the van for whenever the occasion arises . I’m still using a Shakespeare Mach 2 boron for my stick float fishing . 🫣

Got the 12 and 13 footer Borons, I still look at the action, when a fish is on and think wow...

I think there amazing. I’ve been a match angler until the last couple of years , and had every float rod in my time . The old boron’s take some beating in my opinion.
 
I have a Glide 12/14ft as a back up rod. At 14ft it feels very tip heavy.

If you are going for the 12ft then it's OK but nothing special.

The fact they are being knocked out at £40 must say something. Just looked on the BobCo website and only one left at £39.99.
 
I’ve got the 12/14ft and it’s OK, good for the price. I bought it as it’s a 3pc 12ft rod and there aren’t many of those around. 2pc 12ft rods are a PITA on public transport.

Pros are it’s cheap and will land any big fish. I mean it’s a real beast, you could float fish for Jaws with it. Useful if fishing very snaggy swims. Cons are it’s not light (about 190g at 12ft, 220g at 14ft) and tip heavy at both lengths; you’ll feel every one of those grams when trotting. You also won’t catch anyone using the words “crisp” or “responsive” to describe its action but a good bargain option if going heavy.
 
I shouldn't really feel sorry for Terry Theobald, because he's a better fisherman than I'll ever be. But I was watching two videos in which he was trotting for chub: the first was a Drennan shoot from a few years ago, where he was using a 15ft Acolyte, insisting that you need a 15ft rod for the job; the second was a more recent one where he was using the 12-14ft Glide, resplendent in a matching Korum hat.

Going back to my first sentence, my guess is that when not on camera he uses his 15ft Acolyte, or another lovely wand. A comparison between the Glide and an Acolyte would be unfair and pointless, but I was amused by TT's apparent conversion.

The same goes for another prominent You Tuber and chub trotter, who was all over the internet (not a member of this forum) telling everyone what a world-beater the Acolyte is/was. He then pops up and tells us how great the Glide is.

I'm sure the Glide would be a great rod for the money (especially for £39.99), but it appears it's an even better rod when Korum are paying you to tell everyone so.

Kevin, I always find these conversions funny.

Bait ( boilies) are prime examples of celeb jumping back and forwards.
Livened up possibly by a recent video of alleged poor practice taking the sponsorship game to a new level.

One of my pals having a guided day with a known angler, once had pictures of him in a magazine bent into a barbel using a XYZ rod, the blub saying how fantastic it was.
He was in fact using a different rod altogether.

Fun and games.
 
I flirted with the idea of buying a Glide as a dirty old grunt rod for a while (cheap, nasty, not a big drama if it gets broken etc) but for various reasons didn't bother. It's probably one of those that is okay if it is spending most of the session on rests, but I would never want to use it to trot with. Celebrity anglers blethering on about rods are about the most boring thing on the internet from my perspective.
 
I tried the glide rod and found the tip ring needed replacing as it’s a cheap unsupported tip , Couldn’t get on with the rod for long so gave it to a friend to use for occasional float fishing. , for all my chub and barbel float fishing I use a Mark Tunley 13’6 specialist float now . So light and powerful and a pleasure to use all day , and the best bit is that it breaks down to a 2 piece rod Well worth the price for a stunning rod

I had a pull on one the other day when I was with mark and for me it’s too specialist to get a “float rod” feeling from it.
Well balanced, mega power and not a bad weight
Would be a fantastic specialist waggler rod or even a fantastic floater rod I reckon but I’d chose 100 others before it as a trotting rod.

If you’ve had a pull on Chris’s free spirit 1,6 I’d say they are very close in comparison but Chris’s is slightly stiffer and perhaps a bit heavier.
Very Stiff tip and progressive powerful action. Nice curve that’s very central in the blank.
It’s definitely high end and has a place in this world, but it has a “specialist” rod type feel and characteristics which put it (for me) into a different category from match rods
