Finally I had a bit of a sort through...

Of the fishing tackle my late Uncle left me, it's only been 10 years

What I found was a Edgar Sealey 11 ft Octopus Split cane rod in very good condition, and a rather nice split cane MK IV Avon, in even better condition, the only problem is that he fitted a huge chrome reel seat at the base of the butt, which I cut off which leaves me with a much better shortened handle, so I need some cork to redo the handle, but I can only find cork that seems a bit narrow (1'') on the web, I wonder if anyone can help me source a wider cork, say 1.5''? The stripped cane butt is wider than modern rods.

Amongst all the other gear there was loads of lead split shot, many hardcork avon floats (very nice) old hooks to nylon, Efgeeco rests, a Lesney bread press that was manufactured by the Matchbox company, apparently the owner was a keen angler and got the factory to tool it:)

A Tensamatic line winder aid, of which I can find no reference, a 1950's keepnet, and a similar landing net, and a couple of Tonkin handles.:)

Oh! and an Intrepid 'Standard' fixed spool reel..Nostalgia eh!!

My Uncle Doug was my inspiration to fish, so memories flood back, and really is there anything as beautiful as split cane?

Must be a Cold Sunday thing Neil, I decided to have a sort out myself and stuff Ive read, watched used or no longer have a need for and they are making their way to that auction site

the stuff that holds fond memories though, those are staying with me

I would expect Simpsons of Turnford would help out with the cork - just their sort of thing. The bread press things are a bit of a collectors item - maybe the Matchbox collectors want them as well, but like everything I think it must be unused in the box to attract the high prices - I`d keep it & use it for winter chub crust!

You are right Julian, apparently Matchbox collectors collect these things too, but I do intend to keep, it really works well (in a tumbler at any rate:)) and the bread expands to a sugar cube size.

No box but mint condition c/w instructions.

Great minds? I actually auctioned (that site) the Float rod and just noted that it went for £111.00 incl p&p, considering I snagged a Harrison as new barbel rod for £80 on Pre Loved recently it's crazy, but at least it's going to someone who appreciates these things and better than collecting dust.

Old cane rods are very collectable, don't use 'em on the runner beans :)

Didn't Jack Simpson sell up about 5 or 6 years ago? certainly the shop is no longer there. Simpsons may have "joined forces" with Angling Direct.

Neil I may have some corks to serve your purpose , just let me know the internal bore diameter , outer diameter required ,width / how many, i.e how much handle length do you need to cover ? I will see what I can do for you, E mail me at mike.hodgkiss@googlemail.com

Cheers
