Filling your boots.

What with the snow and freezing temps, then the big thaw, eventually our rivers though still running bloody cold had almost returned to normal levels.

Now we've got a very mild front moved in with most areas into double figures day and night.
Add to this, loads of the wet stuff, this weekend should see the rivers up coloured and warm.

So who is out this weekend and equally important (a very important factor to me) is everyone expectant of a barbel??

I'm always expectant in these conditions. Often I've found they've not read the same script as me. Contrary creatures.

Their is more cold weather forcast for next week . Not being an expert I would think your best chance is in the next few days before the cold weather returns and while the weather is mild and the rivers are are up . I will be giving it a go

Got to have a go for my first whisker of 2011. But dont rate my chances the Wandle flows so quick and will be well up!!

Hopefully going on my first session of the year next week. Having bought a new club card for a new river to me, so looking forward to it, just hope the weather holds. :)

David, a 'ditto' from myself on behalf of the legion of anglers who have read your comment and can instantly empathise.

Good luck to those that venture out, I shall be in work. Hopefully the mild weather will last until after I'm finished. I'm not holding my breath.:(

Didn't manage to fill my boots but got off the mark for this year with 2 fish so well enough pleased!

In total agreement with your highlighted sentense, I believe many are over expectant in these 'perceived' perfect conditions and in fact I'd say that first the barbel need to re-acclimatise themselves to the warmth now in the water.

So much so I'll be Thames side carp fishing tomorrow and Sunday, as IMO carp adjust quicker (probably greed;)). Then Tuesday off to the Teme because even if Monday night does see the forecasted slump in air temps, it'll take a few days to effect the water temp.:)

Well done Steve, glad to read someone disproving my theory, so long as the rest comes good, I'll be happy.

Could be by the weekend the barbel will have filled their own boots and the feeding frenzy done and dusted. But maybe not. I am trying to believe they will have as I have to put up a garden shed on Saturday...

Building the retaining wall for a garage base on Saturday, and taking son back to uni on Sunday. However, I did manage a 4lb chub in the few hours I snuck in this evening on the Wharfe.

A word of caution for any of you venturing out this weekend, make sure you don't literally fill yer boots. The rivers are high and banks slippery, a lot more rain forecast for some areas so be careful out there!
