Extra long landing net pole?

Rob Francis

Senior Member
Hi all,
Im in need of an extra long landing net pole.
I have the longer Drennan Super Specialist one but need something half as long again if possible.
Does anyone know of anything available, or has anyone modded their Drennan?
Thanks in advance,
Rob

If you are after something longer Daiwa do a massive 5mtr one but it's not really rated for big fish.

Chris Brown does a real nice one at 9ft but you need to buy the net as well, aint cheap but it has a screw in 3 ft extra long bit so you get a 6ft or 9ft pole in one, well made and finished and now i know i dont really need all my old nets

I use (when I get out) a Gardner 10' with a screw in 4' extra bit - total length around 14 to 14.5 feet.
Home made bit of kit but well up to the job :)

The trick is in the design..............easier for this old codger on high banks.

I had a similar length telescopic one made of heavy duty bits but managed to break it on a non fishing job :-(

Tell me where to send the money Bob I'd love one on my Gardner.

Clive - needs a suitable section for the extension and some metal bits. I need to find the metal as it is scattered all around the place from the workshop rebuild. I'll give you a shout when I do.
Cheers
Bob

I've got a 4m Maver take apart one that has done fine. Allows me to fish over reeds etc or high banks. I fell in trying to land a Barbel on the Stour a few years back. Thinking of reverting to something more solid though as I've only used the top two this year with the Avons lower banks.

Thanks all,
Bob, that looks the sort of thing I was thinking of. Do you think you may make up one or two at some point?
If you do I'd be really interested...

I brought a very cheap telescopic whip of around 9 metres, took enough of the top sections out so I can shove my existing landing net pole up through the other sections and lock in place, a bit of flex but goes out to nearly 6 metres for about £15, the other thing is that because the existing landing net slots through and the pole retracts to about 3 ft, you dont have to use it all the time, and it doesn't take up much space

The best one I've ever used was a 4m Browning one that I had 20 years ago. Unfortunately I left it at a lake a long time ago and never saw it again. They're not made any more and for the life of me I can't remember the name of it, but I've not seen one pop up on eBay, despite looking.

So that doesn't help...

Not so long ago there was a guy who made them bespoke up to 6 or 7 metres in various strengths and stiffness, but fairly big money. Also looks like he's no longer in business as a Google search comes up empty.

So that doesn't help either...

Of the other options, the best I've tried is the Fox Matrix Ethos 4.5m, but at £120 it's not cheap. It is, however, made with larger fish in mind, unlike most other long handles which are more suited to commercial fisheries and match fishing. It's the one I'll be getting when I can afford it.

I'm currently using an el cheapo 5m Lineaffe to reach parts of the rivers I fish that a handle any shorter won't reach. It's not brilliant, but it's stiffer and a bit more rugged than the other 5m handles available from Preston. BUT it's still quite floppy and you have to be a bit ginger bringing it back in with a fish - feeding it back behind you pole style, rather than lifting up like a rod. I can't see it lasting long, mind. Get what you pay for and all that.

If you have 2 drennan landing net poles then you can use 2 male ends into one female end... fnar fnar
