Extra long (15'+) waggler rod

Looks like I may be in the market for a long rod for (deep) stillwater fishing (good sized perch mostly). Doesn't need to be a specialist type or an out and out match/stick rod. It does need to be a long way south of £100. Anyone out there with anything to recommend looking at?

You could always save yourself some money and learn to fish the slider, failing that its second hand for that price. Through experience MAP and Shakespeare made some very nice rods some years ago. More recently it would have to be either a preston or Greys 15 footer. A quick trawl through ebay should bring one or 2 up.

Chris, I have been into match fishing for years and most of these rods feel un ballenced, but i was impressed with the Ron Thomson B52 13/15 medium action, I had a waggle with loads from £40 to £300, and this one stood out and at only £55, it was right up my street for the amount of times I would use it, since i had mine 3 mates have had the same rod.

Thanks fellas,
a big outlay to fish for them means that the slider is going to be the only option for a little while.;) I suspect that it didn't cross my mind as I still have nightmares about distant memories of trying the technique before:D. I'm sure I'll end up buying a long rod soon enough though.;):D
Balance shouldn't be the biggest of issues though, I won't be holding the rod for long periods as you would for trotting.

The problem with a long rod, is you need a longer landing net handle as well.

Hi all. Chris mate,if you can afford the extra dosh then go for a drennan floatmaster 13/15ft combo.Unlike other combo rods both lengths only comprise of 3 sections at any one time.Basically the butt sections comes out of the handle to allow for the other length to be inserted, this i believe results in a lovely balanced long rod. I have tried loads of rods but found this to be the best by far. The rod at 13ft is brilliant, but at 15ft its so light that i rarely fish it at the shorter length.Although the cheapest i have seen these rods is around 135 quid,Look on ebay for a secondhand one and they can be picked up for around 80quid,good luck. Ps if you wanna have a butchers at one feel free to contact me!
