Excellent Service from Chris at JW Young.

My 'River Specialist' hasn't been right since I bought it. I finally sent it back for Chris to look at. Back within a few days. I could see immediately what he'd done. There's much more tension now on the spring. The ratchet is much more positive. Thanks Chris!
I think I've just been unlucky because I hear nothing but praise for the reel.
I like the adjustable tension on the ratchet to cope with elevated flows, debris or, I suppose, snag fishing.
👍

He is nothing short of brilliant to deal with.
My super light gathered afew problems over time and he fixed them all and returned it very sharp. I couldn’t believe how little he charged me to do it given the reel is over 10 years old and it cost him £10 to send it back.
Great service I agree entirely.

Same here. Always great service. Fixed the wobble on a Ray Walton I bought from a friend for just postage costs. Top bloke and has breathed new life into that company.

I've just had an unfortunate accident with one of my RS reels....droped it onto a radiatore and then it bounced onto a tiled floor. Anyhow, the brass foot is FUBAR and there are a couple of nicks in the polished spool rim. Appart from that the reel seems to run fine and there doesn't appear to be any marks on the rest of the reel so I think it is worth throwing a few quid at it to try to rectify the damages.

The foot needs replacing and hopefully the dents in the polished rim can be polished out....hopefully!
Has anyone got a number that I could contact/speak to Chris directly?

Ohh mate, that’s gutting 😔 I think you can just try ringing the number on their website. I think that was how I got hold of him last time. Garry Mills might be a better bet for that repair though. Hope you get it sorted pal, at least it’s not your only reel 🙂

Deffo a sickener Alan, i'd just cleaned it and was about to take it to put it away 🙄.
Luckily I have another reel 😉👍.

If the “dents” or dings are quite significant then they won’t polish out but he might be able to take a skim off the rim with the lathe to clean it up.
Unless it’s really deep the diameter difference after a skim certainly won’t be noticeable

I spoke to Chris this afternoon and explained about my accident with the reel, he was very helpful for sure. He pinged me his address and i'll be sending the reel to him after the weekend. Fingers crossed he can fettle it 🤞.
