Does anyone know of place in Essex to fish during the closed season preferably something that isn't a puddle surrounded by people fishing over each other....

ive moved to Essex so would rather not have to drive for over an hour ideally !

As a start, have a look at the Verulam angling club site. Based in Herts but they do have a few waters in Essex, the Lea Valley and elsewhere. Some of the relief channel is fishable in the close season.

try around the basildon area or pop into a local decent tackleshop and enquire theres loads of waters within 18 miles of southend Tony

Many years since being there but I recall a decent day ticket fishery at Maldon, Chigborogh possibly.

Have a look at Billericay & District, Billericay and District Angling Club, was a member for many years before I moved to the South coast.

Sorry Paul, I'm mixing up the relief channel with the Navigation. Apparently there's 7 miles of it available in the close season, from aqueduct lock down to Bow lock.

Yes you can fish the navigation downstream from kings weir or as you say Paul aqueduct. Lock.some good carp and tench show in the chestnut part of navigation.
