Elips Paste.

I've been trying but failing miserably to make a decent paste out of ground up Elips pellets.
Tried binding it with beaten egg, adding the egg slowly to save it getting to sticky/sloppy.
Tried adding cornflour to the mix in a vain attempt to stiffen the mix
BUT as yet I've got no where near a consistency that will either stay on a hook, let alone strike off when required.

Any ideas gratefully recieved, otherwise back to Halibut paste for me....

I tried the same Colin but the oily nature of Elips pellets doesn't seem to lend itself to a good homemade paste. I think Hinders are doing an Elips paste, don't know what it's like but I find a 50/50 green betaine/halibut to give a nice paste which moulds onto the hook nicely and stays put.
I have had some success moulding this over Elips pellets on the principle that the Minnows etc whittle it away anyway hopefully attracting the bigger fish.

Paul, I'll maybe have to try the Hinders paste but its the high oil content that I want to maintain in the paste, certainly no pest fish around my way to whittle any paste away.(except crays)
The thing is I want to mould it around a hook as its destined for a chub's mouth (hopefully).

Declan, does it make that much difference which way I go with mixing cos when/if it gets sticky I start adding more powder to the mix in an attempt to stiffen it, though after tonights debarcle anything has got to be worth a bash.

The hinders elips paste is top, but very pricey at £4.95 a tub and it is shelf life. If you can make it yourself its a damm site cheaper and fresher. Whether that makes a difference or not is down to personal experience, i prefer fresher made with fresh egg adding a small bit at a time and topping up with elips oil.

Hi men ,

I make mine as above , but stick it in the fridge in a bag overnight . For mounting on the hook for chub , you could try the dodge I used , nick a plastic pellet on the hook threading it around the bend up the shank ( your choice 2 small or 1 large ) and this helps the paste stay in place / counters the weight of the hook.

Hi Colin,

I had exactly the same problem as yourself and Paul Ashton, and I agree it is the over oily nature of the Hinders ground elips powder that is the problem. As far as I can see, it is not possible to make a decent paste of the right consistency with this ready ground stuff from Hinders without some kind of binder.

There are a multitude of good binders available from carp additive sellers which will work, I just haven't got round to trying them yet

Thats not much help I know, but that is the way to go....speak to Ian at C.C. Moores and he will put you right.

Cheers, Dave.

if you are not in the mood of making some go onto bankside tackle's online shop and get yourself some grubber paste......... it compliments their grubber elips pellets really well. Im not on commission but their bait is really good quality..............

all the best, bw
