Drennan or Gardner landing net handle

Justin Martin

Senior Member
Just wanted to see which u guys think of the extending handles by above company's as going to get one of them later not sure which is the better one any feedback pls

Been using the Drennan Super-specialist for a while now, excellent piece of kit.

Justin, there has been some fairly recent and extensive debate on this very subject, itself a recap on slightly less recent but nevertheless extensive debate on this very subject. The Lone Angler handle has been thrown into the mix too you will notice which nicely widens the already quite extensive debate, even further. Using the search function will get you there and you should get all you need. And possibly more than that.

I have the Drennan, which is absolutely fine (I just give the screw thingy at the base of the handle a bit of a wipe now and again) and has served me well for a few seasons now.

Justin, as you have been a member since 2011, it seems odd to me that you have not seen at least one of the raging arguments on these boards on the very subject of landing net handles, the Drennan and Gardner ones in particular. So, assuming this isn't a deliberate wind up, please do as Howard says....I think I will have a nervous breakdown if we have to go through this again :D:D:D

Cheers, Dave.

Gardner one for me Howard. Robust, metal locking mech ( no issues as with the Drennan handle ) and cheaper than the Lone Angler handle whilst doing the same job

Agree with Dave, had my Gardner one a while now with no problems, just as it should be...

I own both Drennan and Gardner. The Drennan sees the vast majority of time on the bank. The Gardner only gets used in specific swims.

I'd rather have a second Drennan than the Gardner. If someone offered a swap, I'd snap their hands off.

Justin,

It is just not possible to have been a member since 2011 and not seen this done to death and back again...........posts like this just make BFW a laughing stock.

And posts like this can make BFW an unpleasant place to visit. I think the point has already been made so not sure its necessary to take things up a notch. In fact it's rather reminiscent of what we were seeing on here not that long ago.

Very well said Howard.

Chris - I'm sure BFW is only a 'laughing stock' to those of YOU constantly trying to destabilise it. Bye bye.

Firstly thanks to the guys who commented I didn't mean this as a wind up or anything was a simple question and was only looking for simple answers I will next time have a search first before asking a question only asked it as decided last nite needed a longer handle and got it on way home today (drennan one) just wanted to know what people thought before I got one which generally is meant to be the point of these type of forums

You are absolutely right Justin, that is what the forum is all about. I have often found that I get a quicker answer by doing a search first as mostly a concern or an issue I have had about something has previously been raised by someone else. That said, sometimes a search can reveal that a previous debate on a subject is potentially out of date or a specific aspect of concern to me hasn't been fully explored and this then often leads me to open a new thread.

All the best.

Hi men,

The "what landing net handle / net " question is a long running one , and seems the one people use to beat BFW with due to it coming up on a regular basis . Yes to some it's a boring subject , but there can't be a time when someone feels he can't ask a genuine question for fear of being pilloried , we have all been there .

It’s all very well advising people to "do a search†but things change by the minute in this day and age. Yesterday’s top landing net handle may well be today’s runner bean support system.

I have the Drennan and the locking bush was a bit problematic, but Drennan service was excellent and the problem was solved with a new bush.
Now 6 years old and still going strong.
The lone angler one looks very nice

I have had the drennan one for a year however am still using my carbon composite 9.99 telescopic one from Argos that's now 16+ years old so it's never actually been used but the locking mechanism on the drennan seems good as long as it's not over tightened.

I have a 2 piece Shakespeare 'Polestar' handle. It is light, strong and unobtrusive to carry which is ideal for an item that is mostly used for bank clearing.

Got 2 drennans and never had a problem with them , seen the Lone Angler one and its top quality though a little heavy , Find it incredible that Chris has been a member since 2010 and the post where he had a pop at Justin was only his 27th !! now I find that funny as it would appear he aint given much to the BFW and if that post was typical then I'm glad !!!!
