Do I need to replace this ring?

I recently moved house again, and when I start to sort my rods after moving, I noticed one ring on one of my rod is damaged, kind of like melted and solidified. I am not sure if this will damage the line, but I think I should do something about it.

So my question is: is it possible to fix it without replacing the ring? Or I’d better get a new ring fitted?

It looks like something has dripped on it rather than the ring being damaged
Have you tried to pick it off with a sharp blade

Thanks Richard. Yeah, that what I was thinking at first place. But I didn’t do it since I am not sure it is the right thing to do. Maybe I should give it a try.

Well it’s difficult to see but what have you got to loose?
if it is melted it wants replacing and if it isn’t it should pick right off so worth a try I’d say

It'd take a furnace to melt the lining to that ring. I'd say with over 99% certainty that it's a drip of something ...yacht varnish, or a 2-pack material. I'd have thought it could be safely removed with a craft knife blade, push in a parallel plane to the lining. As Rich said ...what have you got to lose.

Yeah, it is something dripped on it, don’t know what it is but very hard to remove with a knife. A bit risky, but managed to soft it with a lighter and removed most of it.
