What is the difference in specs to the shimano o.c and shimano D reels , I know that the OC stands for oceanic dont know what the D stands for , at the moment I use 5500 Lc xtb's so which size is more compatible in size to these reels the 6000 or 8000

Bizarelly the 8000 OC/D is only very slightly bigger than the 6000 OC/D. The difference in spool size is only perceptible to the naked eye when you put either spool back to back. The only relative difference is the 8000 spools hold more line. So for barbel fishing the 6000's are ideal.

Can't compare either with the 5500 Lcs as I've not handled them.

If you go on the shimano site you can look at the specs. They love a three let acronym for another system they've dreamt up. Looks like better bearings and something else on the D. And it looks more natty in black and gold of course, that's worth a tenner on it's own.

As the owner of both D's and OC's I don't notice any difference in functionality. So I'd go for the slightly cheaper OC's everytime. And to my eye the aesthetics are more understated. In truth I find the gold spools on the D's a bit blingy.

Hi Paul
I've got both the 6000Ds and Shimano 5500xtds. The spool size on the xtd is quite a bit bigger than the 6000D, I've attached a photo to give you an idea. The body of the xtd is smaller though, due to not having to fit the baitrunner gubbins in it. I prefer the xtds for the Trent for the extra cranking power etc. I fitted ice washers on mine to speed the clutch up, which does away with the need for a baitrunner.
