Daiwa SPM13P Spectron Competition information needed.

Senior Member
Hi All,
I have the above Daiwa Spectron Competition 13ft power float rod and would like some some information about it.
I have asked Daiwa directly but they could not help.
I think could be around 2000-2002?
Does anyone have an old Daiwa Catalogue with its specs etc? If so any chance of taking a photo and sending it to me.
TIA
Neil

Really Great rods.
There’s only so much a catalog will tell you mind Neil and it’s just pointless statistics that don’t mean anything until you’ve got one in your hand.
I can only find the m2 page online which I know is pretty much the same to your Version apart from the handle and reel seat.

Still a ‘proper’ float rod but with mega power. I’ve got the m2 Version in 14ft. I don’t think there are many differences at all between the spectron ranges
They are lovely and tippy to start with when something smallish is hooked or you need to hit a quick bite. The tip on a spectron is quite brilliant, it’s fast and crisp and it makes the rod useful for fish of all sizes.

It’s blends into a through action curve when something big is on and right at the back you’ve got a great set of brakes.
I think the first spectrons like yours were around 2004/5 ish but I can’t be sure and I don’t have a catalog to confirm.

It states on the power models up to 10lb line but personally I’d say 8lb is more than enough for it. You’ll land any barbel that swims on that rod with 8lb line on.

Thanks Richard.
I want to use it as an all round rod so seems fine.
Was interested to know the actual specifications of it.
Cheers Neil

@Chris Jones might be your best bet for an actual catalog stating the specs of your rod

I’ve had quite a bit of extensive use with all 3 eras of spectron rods particularly the power float models and as far as I can tell from actually fishing with them, the blanks behave pretty much the same. The guides also appear to be the same and it’s just the handles and graphics that seem to get a change.

Your rod will be ok as an alrounder if 13ft covers the bulk of your fishing ok.

Yes These are better with heavier lines for specimen fish but on the contrary to that the rods tip is definitely soft and fast enough that bit bashing with it would be successful.

For example I wouldn’t use a HiS power float rod for bit bashing despite the rod being quite equal in power simply because the action in the tip is much slower. So the daiwa is definitely more Versatile

But on the contrary to all that if I was to go for a day bit bashing (doesn’t interest me in the slightest mind) then I’d chose another rod entirely like my Titan 2000 or one of my older spliced tip rods (blue diamond stick or twin power ST etc)
The daiwa is great but these are made for the job. 👍🏻

Hi Richard,
Thanks again for your input.
I spoke with Chris initially and he suggested posting on the forum to get more information as he didn’t have the catalogue in question.
Cheers Neil.
