Daiwa br25a vshimano 6000 oc

I have a pair of Castizms and I’m looking for a pair of 6000 OCs to be honest , the Daiwas seem to have a sticking clutch and BR , both have done it since new , sticks initially then lets go , doesn’t seem right to me and a bit disconcerting.

Hi , opinions on which is the better reel ? Cheers
The Daiwas are pit reels and the shimanos are saltwater live bait/spin reels. They behave and feel totally different. Why not go and try them out because neither are best, it’s down to individual preference

Hi I have the castizms and did have the shimanos. One of my Diawa stuck when new but Diawa fixed it free of charge. Both are great reels in their own right and I do prefer the castizms on my heavy rods for flood fishing, the wider spool gives a bit more cranking power against a heavy current. I also like the magseal on the castizms I feel that it should stand up better in the conditions encountered fishing flood conditions. The oc and d model shimanos though are for saltwater and are well finished and plenty robust enough to do the job.

I have the Castizm BRs on my carp rods and the 6000 OC's on my pike rods.

Both very good reels, and very different. The wider diameter spool and superior line lay on the castizms suits my style of carp fishing using 0.35 mono. The clutch is superb and I like the understated looks. They are also very well built - one of mine spent over 12 hours in the bottom of a silty mere and was unscathed thanks to the mag seal.

I love the OCs for piking. They don't feel troubled cranking in dead baits, the clutch is very good. And while the line lay isn't as good as the Castizms (although much better than 3500bs) it doesn't matter as I'm using braid. The freespool can also be set so light that you could probably use that instead of leaving the bail arm open without worrying about the fish feeling resistance. They are also really well built and robust.

The OC's are very good value for money imo. I've also used them on barbel on the Trent as they did the job just fine.

Don't have experience with the Shimmy but looking at the stats the Emblem is 2oz lighter / has better cranking power and a wider spool to alleviate twist . . .if these things matter I'd go with the Emblems. If you want lighter still and a mag seal for security (and a free spare spool) then the Castizm BR25A is the uprated version (same body size) albeit twice the price

My only dislike with all these modern reels (with small spool aprons) are the plastic line guards - they don't work particularly well and are prone to perishing over time / can crack if not protected in transit . . .just make sure you don't overfill spools!

I purchased a BR25a early in 2024 for my pit tench rods. Since then I've transferred it to a 2.25 lb tc barbel rod. It seems to be reasonably well engineered (without that annoying 'give' on cranking the handle). The bait runner is smooth. I backwind so can't comment on the drag. I'd buy another to completely replace the old Shimano 4500's. But with a house refurb job, and work ongoing, I haven't used extensively since purchase. Can't comment on the 6000 OC's.
