Hi men ,

With so much going on in our lives , we have not noticed , or planned for the start of the season !. We have no club tickets at all , none :eek: . Other than luckily being able to fish Top Barn we can't fish , and the start is rushing towards us :p . Even with searches on the net we are struggling to find somewhere to lay our hats , but we look for things other than the fish . The surroundings , lack of other anglers , being able to stalk them all come into play , and if there are only small barbel then it still ticks the box .

How late are people leaving it to be ready ?, Iv read many the have got there stuff lined up at the front door :D , baited swims , got out walking , making us feel inadequate :( , anyone else as not prepared yet ?.

Not got my club books for the river (maybe not bother or limit it to one only), but have my syndicate for the Severn and BA permits.
Not prepared at all - not terribly enthusiastic at this moment in time.
Have got a couple of prototype rods to test.

I don't bother with season tickets any more much preferring to find an out of the way place away from other anglers. Sadly some of these places habe been taken over by greedy syndicates. On the flip side this puts most anglers into known places and miles of quiet banks for me and any other angler who wishes to fish on there own. As for preparation, boilies ordered last week, rods and everything else was cleaned just after seasons end. I only use 4 rigs and know everything's ok there. I have enjoyed the closed season no end and rarely thought about it, hopefully all the fish have had a good rest, spawned successfully, banks recovered, waterbirds hatched etc, ready for the smash and grab come opening day...
 
Same as you Mark having recently moved to wales I have the Taff on my doorstep but bit walked it not got a permit.only 45 mins from the wye as well but I don't know this year I'm struggling to find the spark.

Twyford ticket. LAA ticket (Britford) and Yet to get Reading ticket.

I Can only suggest those that not so keen....get your trottting gear out . I'll be doing that for at least half of my fishing this season.

Cleaning and sorting my gear out this morning and then hopefully loads of trotting too :D
Reading and Twyford for me too GE.

I have heard this on the quiet Ray thing is my first problem is actually getting to know the actual area's I'm allowed to fish.
I'm not talking swims etc wouldn't be so rude but what with the move etc not had time to research anything as of yet???

Hi Guys,
I rarely buy club memberships these days, there are plenty of miles of rivers which are unfished, all that is required is a bit of detective work to find the riparian owners, a polite request is rarely refused, finding parking can be a problem though! As for preparation I simply pick up my kit from where I dropped it 3 months ago!:)

That'll be much my approach too Bob, got a great LRF rod recently, a Majorcraft Zalt 0.5 to 7gm, paired with Aernos 1000 and 0.4PE Sunline rockfish, can fish 1 inch shads on 0.5gm jig heads and still feel what's happening. Also bought a G Loomis dropshot rod to replace the savage gear one I was messing with, looking forward to some fun with perch and chub on the river, might get over to the Severn again for some Zander action
 
Yes Ian - I'm looking forward to mooching around with various lures and even a few worms.
Fancy using some light surface lures. As you can guess have a few dropshot and light lure rods.
Oh and can't seem to help myself from buying lures - especially soft plastics!

May try a bit of LRF as well. Nice kit by the way.

Pretty well organised for a change mainly because I'll be glued to the World Cup when it starts on Thursday. Just need to transfer a couple of bits back from my stillwater rucksack to the one I use for rivers. Still to decide on which river I'll be spending opening morning. EA river levels website will dictate.
