First of all thank you all for your great advise reg. the Harrison Chimera 3s and other rods here. Your advise was invaluable.
I finally found a rodmaker in Ireland (https://mikescustomrods.com/) who could get the Chimera blanks for me and send them to Germany without the hazzle of tax and customs (albeit all UK rodmakers I contacted understandably didnt want to go to the trouble of shipping the rods).
Mike was very pleasant to work with and delivered the rods very fast to my requirements. Excellent work too .
Having used Free Spirit rods amongst others, Korum, Daiwa and also the excellent Kodex barbel rods I was amazed as how stout of a rod the Chimera 3s are. Much bigger diameter overall and even bigger above the handle.
My 12ft 2 3/4lbs Free Spirit heavy water barbel feels and looks like a mere wand compared to the Chimeras . Much slimmer blank.
The Chimeras definitely come to their own when actually fishing. Have not caught any big barbel or carp on them but they have a very nice progressive taper that is very strong and can handle big feeders of 5oz and more easily as has been mentioned here.
Contrary to what has been written I dont think they are through actioned rods. To me they are rather progressive with a very strong butt section that is locking up under pressure. In any case each to his own and I am a very happy owner and will surely try to put the Chimera through its paces till the end of the year and then from March onwards when the season starts again here.
They are surely also at home on any carp lake and will handle any carp that swims.
Thanks again for your advise and hopefully I will be able to report back when the biguns have started to fall for the Chimeras . Have a very merry Christmas and you and your families stay healthy!
