Hi all,
I will be stopping at the premier inn in springfield, chelmsford, essex next sunday and was wondering if there is any barbel fishing nearby, preferably with day tickets on the bank or free fishing as i will be travelling down sunday morning and that afternoon is the only chance i will get to wet a line.
if anyone could help me out that would be great!
pm if preferred.
many thanks, Leon

Hi Leon, wish I had some good news, there is miles of the Chelmer on day ticket but barbel are very rare. Lots od rumours of the odd big fish but it's bit like playing the lottery. Good for chub and carp though.

Could try the Lea if anyone wants to guest you. Sorry I can't as I'm not a member. ask on the lea thread.
Also the suffolk Stour does contain barbel.

Me too, my locals are the Teme, Kennet and Lodden. We can agree that Chelmsford is not the barbel centre "par excellence" !!

Try the Blackwater near Witham and The Roding close to Ongar. Isolated spots of fish on those 2 rivers. The Chelmer has a few up towards Dunmow area.

I believe the Roding is run by Billericay and District Angling Club. The Blackwater is run by Maldon Angling Society

Not sure about the Chelmer that high up. I used to fish it mostly for the chub and trout when I was a nipper.
