Centrepin reel anyone.....

Thanks Ian for posting up your honest opinions about these beautiful centerpins. I like to hear your opinions on these things as your a man that has much experience in this field and thankfully you will sing the praises of a quality product. Which these days is a hard thing to find. After checking Chris's website out I see these are definitely not cheap and something more of an investment which I will look into in the future as I get more used to using a centerpin as im still a newbie.

Thankyou Etienne for the nice reply.

At the end of the day you deffo don't have to spend so much money on a centrepin reel to go fishing and enjoy yourself. There are many cheaper options to use which are perfectly fine, a couple of examples being the okuma aventa pro, or the okuma sheffield which imo are excellent reels.

Cheers for the advice Ian, don't worry I'm not about to spend all my money on a Chris Lythe reel just yet. I'm going to make do with my Marco Cortesi for awhile, a bargain reel i picked up for £10. I need to get better at Wallis casting first. Time will tell if centerpins suit my style of fishing although i am enjoying using one. But it is good to see what others recommend kit wise.

I also really like the way he attaches the line pillars too with the counter sink brass screws. It looks really nice.

You mentioned that you wondered how he gets the head slots in the screws to line up, it’s actually very easy to do because you’ll notice on the back flange that they probably don’t line up at all. It’s only on the face you see
It’s simply a case of when fitting the screw just rotating the line pillar as you tighten the screw up so that they nip up in exactly the position you want them too. You then tighten up the ones on the back flange which will end up in the position they end up.
Unless you cut the thread at exactly the correct starting point on both the screw and the pillar both sides for all 12 pillars and 24 screws (which would be near on impossible without the most accurate cnc programing) you can’t get the screw heads to align both sides but it’s very easy to do on the 1 side you see as he does it.

Really enjoyed that video Ian
A few of my syndicate mates have a CL pin from when he was a member
I think one lad waited 7 years from ordering?
Like the Patek Philippe of the reel world
But crafted in Yorkshire👍

I also have the 1939 aerial match and the float master su. Brilliant reel especially the 1939 aerial. Chris made the first 50 with narrow drum just like the original and wider drum for the remaining.

I do wish he will take order again as I want the 1915 Avon, but chances are slim.

Yea, I know how he does it Rich but I wouldn't be very good at intricate stuff like that, i'd prolly mash the heads up etc, etc lol.
