Centrepin Benchmark

The is a lot of discussion around the merits of various centrepins, but irrespective of manufacturer and asthetics, is there an objective benchmark of how how mechanically efficient a pin is and does this change by intended use?

For example, mine (let's not worry about the make, but its a bearing model) is three years old, spins on average for just less than a minute, and turns freely with three no4 shot loaded on a made up rod (11.5ft avon rod 5lb Drennan float line).

So what is a reasonable benchmark when buying a new one or deciding when a service might be due?

Cheers
STEVE

I would say, if it does the job you want it to do, the benchmark is set!

As for service, unlike fixed spools, a touch of light oil and a brush for the grit is all that is needed.

One thing for sure Steve is that the length that a reel spins has NO bearing (forgive the pun)whatsoever on the quaility of the pin.Bearing reels can be loaded to spin freely or not...in much the same way as true pins can be altered on the spindle.
Rich.
