change your target species Sean according to the conditions. you can still catch barbel but as you are finding out it can be really tough, with low clear cold rivers.

I've switched my attentions from not catching barbel to not catching pike. Will probably not fish barbel until the last few weeks of the season now.

Conditions are good for a barbel at the moment in my neck of the woods,.. but just fish according to conditions,.. don’t get tunnel vision over one species.

Seeing the current rainfall, I am thinking that in a few days a trip to the Ribble may be in order, it has been very low for some time, and needs a good flush through to clean it up and wake up the residents .
