Catapult for maggots

Hi Guys,

Looking for recommendations please.

A catapult that can fire maggots out to the far side of the river.

Tried Drennan feeder pult and pellet pult but can't get the distance.

Thanks in anticipation

I’ve tried loads but the Gardner Target ones are my favourites at the moment for grouping micro pellets at a reasonable distance. The problem with maggots is the lack of weight and shape so think you’ll struggle with any. Have you tried the sticky maggot powder for making them into balls?

I do the same thing and fire them across the back of the river regularly

I’ve found The guru green cati is powerful enough to propel them the furthest but watch out.
It’s bloody lethal and I’ve actually stopped using it now as it’s the only one I’ve ever owned that I can’t technique my way out of getting rapped knuckles.

Iv just bought the Drennan revolution anti tangle. It's good for the river I fish (Ribble) but I suppose on the day its how wide is the river your on! Cos what's good for me may not be powerful enough for you

Any catapult works fine ,with a bit of sticky mat, make a ball about the size of a ¹⁰p round and it will put ⁴⁰yds.

Every day is a schoolday
Such a simple tip re sticky powder and never heard of that?
Daft question- if you have say 2 pints , do you take out a couple of handfuls for hook baits and sprinkle powder on the bulk
Or just cover the lot?
I have loads of cattys and none of them will get maggots across the Swale which isn’t a big river
Thanks guys👍

You may need to dampen the maggots a little first but horlicks works just as well as sticky mag. I've had chub trying to intercept the whole ball of maggots before!

Re wrapped knuckles , as you let go of the pouch , drop the hand holding the catapult downwards then it wont hit your hand

Thanks Mike I’ll check that out because I want it to work.
I’ve got a lot of different ones but this particular one seems to be the only one consistently giving me a rap.

As ever, thank-you everybody for your contributions and recommendations.

I had never heard of sticky powder or the Horlicks method so will investigate.

I have ordered the Guru green cati.

Thanks again

To save wraped knuckles i've found holding the pult upside down works well, it also seems to fire the maggs further.

My own favourite pult for maggs and corn is the stronger laccied drennan feeder pult.

With your engineering background you might be able to fit a guard to protect your knuckles. If not Gardener sell a guard. Bit of faff but at least your hand should not hurt!
