As far as I know Steve all the Ci4 reels are upgraded to carbon washers.

Hi Steve had mine a couple of seasons and they came with felt washers , now upgraded and imho all the better for it.

Mine came with felt but are smooth anyway compared to the felt washers in really cheap reels.
Wouldn't hurt to upgrade them though.

I play my fish with the drag , I know a lot of people back wind but each to his own, but for quick changes to drag pressure I find with the carbon washers is minute in comparison with the felt washers which suits me,
