You can get Octoplus fixings to fit on all sorts of diameter poles, I have one that attaches to my Bri-Lo box & holds a brolly pretty securely....
I guess they will still be available.....
When I used a "normal" brolly, in windy conditions it was a nightmare. So I tried a powerspike, reasonably successful. So I tried guy ropes, reasonably successful. So I tried storm caps and storm poles. But all in all it was unsatisfactory, plus the fact that rain always slanted under the brolly.
I tried tying/fixing brolly to chair, but in windy conditions the brolly/chair would be unstable once you had stood up.
Had enough of all that, and had endured it for years . So I bought an umbrella with sides, and storm poles and pegs. Have never looked back.
I use the Fladen brolly spike. Take the pole out of the brolly, clamp the spike to it, then use your foot on the side bar to gently push the spike home. If it's windy, I then also use storm poles.

Taken Lukes and Mike suggestions and went out and bought a Fladen style spike on my way to a cold session yesterday. Worked perfect, although there was not much wind it held the brolly tightly in the hard ground. Cheers chaps
