Broken Rod Tip

Neil Kirk

Senior Member
I managed to break 8 inches off the tip of my rod whilst on the Wye.

It's a very good rod but not sure whether its worth trying to get the tip repaired or whether I should just fit a new tip ring on to where it snapped.

Any thoughts?

Not quite the same perhaps but I did something similar a while back on my otherwise perfect Normark Titan and I must admit to having a little cry. Anyway I sent it all off to Bob Gill and he made everything better.

Did something similar with one of my rods earlier this year, attempted a repair using an internal 'splint', all was fine until I'd played a few fish and found that my 'splint' had bent! Stripped it all down and refitted the tip ring to the shortened top section and haven't noticed any difference in action at all.
It was only 2" broken off on mine, I guess 8" would have a more drastic effect.

Thanks for your replies.

I've been in contact with Bob Gill & Roger from Peregrine rods and unfortunately it can't be fixed.

Neil,
As I mentioned in my mail, you could always (or get someone local) to splice a heavy glass fibre or carbon quiver section to partially save the rod. Postage always adds significantly to costs.
Cheers

I didn't think that a quiver tip was really what I wanted on this rod so I'm just going to take it on the chin and try to be more careful in future.

Thanks

Neil

Could you not hack saw it down at the next eye. Sure I remember john wilson doing something similar although not sure how much of the rod he had snapped. Might not make your rod a total right off
