Boilie Baitmakers Advice Please....

John Cook

Senior Member
Hi All,

Rolled my own boilies this term using a fishmeal basemix with a few powdered additives plus a shellfish extract liquid did ok but i want to add a little extra to it for next term.......I was thinking of balancing the shellfish extract with some meat extract liquid or going with the shellfish extract balanced with a curry/garlic liquid that i know of, your thoughts please........:) PM if you prefer.

I use liver extract in my GLM boilies, they work!

Sounds like an expensive, but trick, tasty mix! I was toying with the idea of using various forms of pate as a cheaper, easily obtainable meaty booster. I think it would be easily incorporated into the boilie mix with a tweak or two.

Cheers, Jon

I use some GLM powder in my baits along with some betain as part of an attractor package but as i said looking for a secondry liquid extract, shellfish with a hint of meat or shellfish with a curry/garlic hit??

How about mixing some liquid foods such as

http://www.ccmoore.com/liquid-liver-extract-p-904.html

With any of their many fish liquid foods. Mix & match - the possibilities are endless. If your looking for a subtle hint use in addition to flavours and/or essential oils.

PS just seen their worm extract http://www.ccmoore.com/worm-protein-extract-p-1288.html

see their review http://www.ccmoore.com/images/uploa...RM PROTEIN EXTRACT LIQUID by Stewart Moss.pdf

or their new krill extract http://www.ccmoore.com/krill-amino-compound-p-1304.html

Marmite at one tea-spoon measure per two eggs is cost effective additive
The CC Moore catalogue leaves holes in my budget but many of those that Jon mentions do work.

Hi,

Yes i have tried a few of the cc moore liquid foods over the years in my base mixes and yes they are nice products, never tried the meat amino though but was looking at it, wondered if the feedstim liquid was anygood or just a con? expensive enough though, the marmite takes me back to my carping days, I notice cc moore does the krill extract liquid i remember using their salmon and krill extract it was an evil smeller.

I know what you mean re cost Darryl. I have read a lot from Tim Richardson's writings (CC Moore Consultant) a lot of free articles of his on the net. I look at some of his mixes/ideas - all inspiring stuff but the budget it would take to sponsor some trick mixes & the quantities of liquid additives. I bought a lot of ingredients at the beginning of the season but I am trying now to come back, full circle, to basics.

Yes Jon with these liquid extracts they seem to suggest some large amounts per 6 egg mix.......

Hi men,

The attractor profile of marmite under any other name would cost a fortune :D. Dissolve a spoonfull into a small amount of warm water , just enough to make it useable for blending into your other liquids . Can't be overdone , just need to muck around with levels to get the mix of flavour right .

I often blend it with a fish protein liquid , in a bait , and a fantastic dip for baits/pva bags.

I have used it in the past with low 30 and hydrolised salmon protein, but i seem to chops and change additives all the time, when i find something good i seem to want to change again:eek:

I think that's the perennial bane of bait making! I too am constantly looking to spice up my broth - probably a case trying to anticipate the ultimate 'Soma Juice' bait compounded by anthropomorphising fishes gustatory desires

Hi John,

Marmite is a good additive...but it is not exactly what you asked for, as it is made from yeast extract and vegetable extracts...there are NO meat products in it.

DT's Oily Chicken is a decent, gentle meat flavour, which works well for carp for whatever reason...it will certainly give a meaty undertone to your bait.
However, it is a flavour rather than a food additive. If you really want a food additive, then as said, liquid liver.

Cheers, Dave.

WOW| and UNBELIEVABLE||| Some people must have money to burn, looking for the holy grail of fish bait. Take a step back and take a deep breath. Ask a certain Martin James what his favourite recipe is, and he,ll probably tell you BREAD or WORMS. But each to his/her own. But what do i know. :D

I don't know why people are banging on about expense, I've roughly calculated my boilies to cost me around £3 a kilo.
I use liver powder as opposed to liquid.

*edit*
actually nearer £4, still cheaper than buying them!

David, yes liver extract/nutramino etc has been a firm favourite with carpers for donkeys years, Derek, yes us baitmakers can get a bit carried away when putting a mix together and the liquids dont come cheap but we cant help it:D It would be easy just to buy a bag of pellets or a tin of meat and catch barbel but not as pleasureable as catching on your own baits:)
