Base Mix Shelf Life?

Matt White

Just found half a bag of CC Moore's Odysey base mix and a bottle of liquid flavour in the back of my cupboard, both well sealed in air tight bags. I think I bought them around 4 years ago! Will they be Ok to use or should I just throw them away?

I think they have had it Matt...send them to me and I will dispose of them for you :D

Seriously though, Odyssey does have fish-meal and milk proteins in the mix (amongst a host of other stuff) which can go off...bottom line...if it looks OK, smells OK....then it almost certainly is OK, in that it will not harm the fish. It MAY have lost some of it's food values, but that would probably make a minimal difference to the end result. In that case, go for it :)

Cheers, Dave.

If the flavour is oil based bin it mate. Oils go rancid in fairly short order. Wot Dave said about the Odyssey though.

Knock it up and try it,if you catch it's alright if you don't its no good! That is of course unless your fishing a special river that is fishing well at the moment if not then its not a fair trial!

Half a bag Matt is less than a fiver! So unless you're strapped give it the heave ho...as for the flavour, I've found in the past that some flavours improve with age but take note of Kevin's comment.....
