Barbel Spawning

I read this article by Bob a couple of days ago, but it really doesn't tell us much at all, apart what we already know I guess. Apart from the tagged barbel EA experiment there has been little study I think, into the Barbel's movements / spawning activities.

The article talks of Barbel heading upstream, similar to Salmon to spawn in the gravel headwaters, really? Perhaps that might happen with a few fish but I cannot subscribe to the notion that all Barbel will do this, perhaps some Barbel some years do not spawn, could it be that conditions have to be suitable for a spawning otherwise there is no stimulus to mate?

However I think to be fair to Bob I should read those links to books he posted up to be up to speed, so much to do, so little time, perhaps some of the more enlightened on here (DG AW) could summarise the whole thing to save my eyes:)

If they do travel that far ? Then perhaps is not a daft suggestion that Barbel if not all then just some from the Lower Severn do migrate to the Teme to spawn . I just hope if that if they do .
Then they are back in time for the 16th :D:D:D
