Barbel on the BBC!

Anyone watching Springwatch? Quite suprised to see underwater footage taken by Hugh Miles of the river Wensums resident fish stocks being shown on the BBC for the last two nights running - more to follow tomorrow! Nice to see a bit of interest shown in our native fish stocks for once.

Yes. So, with the help of Hugh and ChrisP with some sub-Wayfarers on, we have the public briefly onside. Shame to spoil the moment by letting on that some of us want to kill anything fish-eating just because we're worth it...........

Doubt the general public will support our fight from those clips - but at least they now know what the otters are eating! Will Springwatch be showing the Wensum next season without any sizable fish in it? If so - would there be a public outcry to try and find out what's happened to the fish stocks once they have gone?

In a word; "No". Because what happens to obsess us is in others' eyes merely slimey, cold-blooded, dead-eyed and s-o-o-o un-cute.

We have to live with this in the image-obsessed age that WE gave the nod to, connive with and continue to pay for.

I thought they'd got rid of Bill Oddie?

Barbel on Channel 4

Morning All

For those who don't already know, 'Catching the Impossible' starts on Channel 4, on Sunday 13 June, okay so it's on at 7.00 in the morning, but if you've not seen it, it's well worth a watch!

Cheers
Mark

Thanks Mark, just recorded it in case I am hung over after Englands stunning win against the USA.

I assume it will also be available on the web catch-up service (whatever the Channel 4 version is called).

Spawning footage

Hi all
Hugh's managed to film some excellent spawning footage for the beeb that will be broadcast on tonight's Springwatch, as well as an interview with him about the Wensum.
This is the most positive perspective of the world we all appreciate that's been on prime time TV for years.
If anybody fancies emailing the beeb to congratulate them on their footage, please do. I know I will be.
Well done Hugh
Regards
Mark

I can't wait till next Wednesday show when you will probably see a great chunk of meat rolling past the camera ;p Excellent footage though and amazing to see so many fish in realtively shallow water, judging from when the presenter climbed out of the river last night it must be about 18 inches deep.
