barbel in Germany

Anyone have any experience of barbel in Germany
Am off touring with the other half for a couple of weeks and wondered if its worth accidentally;) packing some gear

Don't bother. In order to fish in Germany you have to pass a test which involves about 1 months study to make you eligible. This is to ensure you have a thorough understanding of fish welfare and the environment to conduct yourself in an appropriate manner.

And then, wait for it, you have to bang everything you catch on the head. This ludicrous situation comes about due to the Green Party influence in German politics, they mean well but have no practical idea.

And this is the way it will go in the UK if we continue to cow down to the Green / Politically correct brigade over issues like killing otters and using live baits.

Killing the fish on the other hand, definately not a good idea.

What happens to the carp that you see people catch over there? eg 'team korda Germany'
 
GUYS where is this thread going ..Simon asked about Barbel angling in Germany.

Never been Simon but would love to someday hope you get a chance to wet a line.

Yes, it is worth packing some gear, just make sure you have a tourist licence and put em back on the quiet.
 
I think Adi kiddel fished in Holland close to the German border for Barbel, you might be able to divert a bit on your journey out.Also John Bailey caught Barbel close to the German border in the czech republic,and there are some fantastic rivers in Austria (on youtube feeding Rainbows and Barbel underwater by a diver).The book you want to look up is a book by Tony davies patrick,'Big fish in foreign waters' ,you can pick up a copy cheaply and it covers countries and rivers in Europe, in good detail,with quite a lot of Barbel rivers mentioned.Tight lines for your trip,its just a matter of finding out the permissions required.
