Hi guys theres a shimano vengence 1.5 avon rod, plus 3 tips in 2oz,3oz and 5oz going cheap but ive got to adsmit ive got no idea why i would want to use the heavier tips,is this when you are fishing faster water or using heavier leads sorry to be a bit naive any help welcome.cheers ste.

The 2, 3, & 5oz tips are the lighter tips Steve, the 1.5 Avon top being the heaviest.

Ian.

Thats if i've understood you !

I tend not to use the quiver tips of my Avon/Barbel rods at all. If I do it'll usually be because I'm fishing a stillwater or I'm fishing a lighter rod for the smaller river species. The only barbel fishing scenario that I can think that I may use a quiver is when legering upstream.

Thanks for the replys ian and chris ,ok i was going to buy it as a second rod but iam unsure now, could i fish for say chub using one of the quivers thanks ste.

You'd be fine, In that sort of scenario I'd use the heavier tips on a river where lighter tips could load too much with the flow. I'll use the lightest tip I can get away with in a given situation when I'm fishing for pretty much anything other than barbel. Where barbel are concerned I tend to be of the "sit on my hands until they whack it" school of thought. Quiver tips are just not needed.
