Avon Scales Advice Please

Nicholas Cole

Senior Member
I've recently acquired two sets of Avon scales. One is a standard white bodied 40lb model but the other is grey and weighs up to 8lb in half ounce divisions and has a hook in place of the usual handle on the top.

The face of the scales says Mark IV Avons but i havn't seen any like them before.

Anyone know when they were made? I'm guessing that they were either for match fishing or for silver species specialists.

i've seen them before, used to be used by the tench and chub lads apparently.
theres a set on tackle trader in box for 50 odd quid, supposedly really rare.

to be fair Ive bought books off the guy in question recently, they've been very good value and good condition!
you may have had a touch and got a bargain!
regards
steve

Nicholas do you have any photos of the scales I have seen the ones on tackle trader and I am interested to get some if possible for my smaller species fishing but not at £50 lol. Might just spend a while scouring ebay it would be interesting to see what they look like. I can also say the guy selling the scales sells some nice gear but always wants top money but he is a a nice genuine guy.

Cheers Nicholas
