avon/quiver rod

Hi All,

just need some advice when would you generally use a avon rod and whats the main differences between an avon and quiver rod.

thanks

Martin

The classic answer is you would like use a quiver for more sensitivity when required such as fishing smaller baits (e.g. maggot and caster) and smaller or shy biting fish being the quarry. Larger baits, stronger flows, more leads and heavier fish likely demand the use of the avon top.

In some sense, in the barbel world it largely boils down to personal preference. Some prefer the quiver and others the avon. Most "serious" barbel rods opt for just the avon top so it might depend on one's disposition!
