At last

It looks like the next couple of days is going to bring some much needed rain but will it be enough as the rivers are that low.

I've booked tomorrow of work to go and have a day on a hopefully rising river tomorrow evening but I'm not sure whether it's going to make much difference

Off out soon for my only October barbel trip this year, hoping to find the rivers have some water on in November when I get back from Florida!

rain

plenty of rubbish will get moved if we get any proper rain, they need a good flush through to liven things up!

A bit premature Marcus I would say !

Over the next 4 days for instance a total of 28mm of rain is forecast in Wales according to Metcheck
So I would say by Saturday there might be a significant rise and a some colour in the river Wye at Ross
And that will certainly switch the fish on !
Happy Days ahead !

A couple of weeks back I fished three consecutive evenings (on my local river Severn) in steady rain - not torrential, but the sort that will thoroughly soak you. Needless to say, the river didn't rise so much as a millimetre! Yesterday, I spent a few hours bank clearing and preparing some pegs that I hope to fish when/if we are lucky enough to get a reasonable lift in river levels. Beneath the undergrowth the riverbank was bone dry. The ground is like blotting paper and personally I think we'll need some serious rain before we see any drastic changes in river levels. As we all know, October, with some lovely fresh floodwater going down the river is a recipe for good barbel sport - unfortunately November is looming and before we know it, frosts will arrive and it'll be time for the old thermal gear again and it'll be the end of the 'easy' fishing that we've enjoyed this past summer - hang on a minute, I must have been thinking of last year - now that was a proper summer with all that lovely rain!

Great stuff, itching to get on with some proper fishing.

Earlier on the year I was doing some work on the river and despite the river level being quite low the water table was still very high. I think you would be surprised at how little rain in might take to raise levels.

Am I the only one who is happy the way it is at the moment?? The river I'm fishing is a little on the low side but nothing to drastic, and getting a few bites along the way,

James, my local River Avon is getting on for 2-3 feet below its summer level of 4-5 years ago !! So yes, some rain would be nice !!
