at last

At last indeed! This is one series I will definitely be setting the recorder for. How the TV companies can take so LONG to take up a series from Hugh Miles, with his track record, almost beggars belief.

Quite apart from 'A Passion for Angling', the man is also responsible for some of the finest wildlife footage ever recorded...his snow leopard piece was as unforgettable as it was unique.

How is it possible that prime time TV is taken up with an endless procession of mind numbingly boring crud, while this series is being shown at seven in the morning for chrisakes ...just to see if it 'might be popular'

I realise that as an angler I am biassed, but do they not remember how popular his first series was, even with non anglers?

Cheers, Dave.

7am start time , not exactly prime time viewing !

Oh well, saves buying the remaining dvd's.

D.

Sorry Dave, we must of posted at the same time. 7am is proper daft though, better than not at all I guess !

Think I read somewhere that the last DVD won't be included in the TV series.
Pete:(

That would appear to be right as June 13th to August 1st only gives 8 slots! Must remember to get some blank DVD's ready to start recording the ones I haven't seen.

The trouble is is that the two series are really quite different though aren't they?
'Halcyon River Diaries' which was most likely a no-brainer on the part of BBC has more in common with 'Passion...' than 'Catching the Impossible' has.
One man's quest to catch the biggest fish he can, albeit interspersed with some revealing underwater footage, is just not going to catch the imagination of the general public I feel.

Quite why they have decided to run this during the first couple of months of the season is beyond me
7.00 on a Sunday morning ,just when a lot of anglers are on the river bank !
Why not show it in the close season ?

Should include a peice on how good Tarka is at catching big fish and then show the section of river after he's eaten them all.

Result will be public outcry to stock big fish for Tarka to eat.

Then the education begins

Hugh might be on Springwatch too!

Fortunately, I've got the full set of DVDs (they even sent a box case for the set when I ordered the third one) so I won't have to get up early to watch them. However, for those that don't possess them and can't get up that early on a Sunday, you can always record them for viewing at your subsequent pleasure (and you can skip the ads that way as well!!) I do agree, however, that the films are not as suited to the wider audience as Passion was.

Changing tack, Springwatch starts next week on the Beeb and it appears that there is a strong possibility of some Hugh Miles footage therein. Talk is of 'live' footage of spawning barbel, if they oblige, or the film that Hugh shot of roach spawning on the boards put out by the Avon Roach Project.

We'll just have to hope that it all works out and it will make a change to see something other than the usual 'cuddly' badgers, otters, foxes and birds of various descriptions - not to mention those rutting deer!
