does anybody know if the tidal at collingham has dropped a bit? was thinking of going tomorrow but my mate went over dunham bridge today and said it was badly flooded,so i should imagine collingham will be in a bad way too, just wondering if anybodys been today or over the last couple of days?

Some one pulling your leg tony, hasn't had any water on for nigh on 3 weeks now. If anything. its low and very clear.

Middle been normal or a few inches above for last couple of weeks , The EA site showing river at Torksey in normal range , with tide looking high nothing more

cheers lads for that info, its just that im only geared up for about 6 oz max. n when i last went to collingham a few weeks ago it was totally unfishable, with the flood and weed, there was no one on the banks and 3 blokes turned up got big carp rods out and chucked 10 to 12 oz in and it dragged them straight down stream, they packed up and left, but me and my mate stayed n tried to hold the margins because it was the first time weve ever been to collingham, we were in about peg 3/4, but no chance. reason im checking is that my mate said dunham was flooded and i wouldnt want the same experience as last time. even the famous peg 1a was empty.

You'll have no problems with 4oz Tony, but it isn't exactly fishing it's head off in spite of the increase in temps.

cheers graham collingham it is then, unless anybody wants to put me onto somewhere that is actually fishing its head off at moment? remembering im a bit green with barbel, but hooked on em lol

Sorry lads but Dunham was well and i stress the word well up today, the tide was running off but even so, was still very very high, I can't upload the pictures as they are on my phone which would show how high it is!

Collingham

Although I wouldn't say it's fishing its head off, my mate and I managed 10 fish between us on Thursday. River was fairly clear and warming up at the time.

For those that dont know about tides, there are 2 types of tides, spring tides and neap tides, springs are always higher than a neap tide, and adversely lower to boot aswell. neaps are when there is little fluctuation between a high and low tides. Springs always come on a full or a new moon, neaps on a half moon. I always keep an eye on the moon to give me an idea whats happening in relation to the tides, after a while you will find out that some moon phases will affect your catches, but thats another story. Also the tides are hampered if there is some water on the river too, when this happens during a spring tide the flood water takes a long time to get to the humber and some times never starts to run off properly until a neap tide.
If you look at this graph from easy tide you can see the spring tides that are happening now and the neap tides comong later this week; http://easytide.ukho.gov.uk/easytid...ngOffset=0&PrinterFriendly=True&HeightUnits=0

Also at this time of year the highest tides come shortly after the equinox on the 21st March so the tides are generally higher leading up to this point.

Have a look here this is a very good explanation of whats occurring;http://home.hiwaay.net/~krcool/Astro/moon/moontides/

hope there hasnt been too much thum sucking...........

Think its the same story as is happening on the middle , the fish are shoaled tightly , so your either on them or your watching someone who is .

All last year my days off fell on the lowest tides and managed a few fish but know those fishing the higher ones caught more , having looked at the tides for this year I may be on for the higher ones

Very informative post, Jon. What happens when Jupiter aligns with Mars and the Albedo effect, normally about 0.1, if my memory serves me well. And with my sailor's cap on, high and low water?

Ha Ha there can be only one Jim foxall.....

Cheers for this lads, I have since looked up on the net as I thought something wernt right after I had posted my last comment due to having no rain I knew it shouldn't have been that high but Iv since discovered how much the moon affects the rivers aswel as the sea's. Still as this is my first season it's still a bit of a shock to see it that high without the rain!

10 to 12oz leads? you'd struggle to cast that with a normal sea rod never mind a carp rod. I do fear for some people casting such huge leads, sounds like a serious accident waiting to happen.
