Gents, trying to find a 12ft 2 peice avon type rod that has a soft action of around 1.5lbs t/c, mainly for summer chubbing and to double up for floater fishing the dog biscuit on the occasional evening after work hence the soft action as i prefere to cast freeline (no controllers etc...) any ideas what would do the job and not break the bank?, it does not have to have a quiver section as i doubt if i would ever use it.

Richard,

Try the Free Spirit Specialist if you can find one (brown blank) or the 11' Free Spirit Barbel Tamer. Failing that a Harrison Chimera Avon is a good bet.

I've had all three, still have the Harrison and they are all excellent all round avon rods.

Hi Richard

For a cheap 2nd avon style rod I would take a look at the Drennan series 7 avon in the 1 1/2lb test. With a retail of £90 new or £50 on ebay, I dont think you can go wrong even if you only use it a couple of times a season.

Tight lines

The Drennan Super Specialist Duo 1 1/4 is ideal for Chubbing, found the 1 1/2lb rod much too stiff,
so the Series 7 1 1/4 would be spot on....they also do a 12' specialist which is a single avon top, well finished too....

Thanks gents, does anyone know if the drennan avon rods are 3 piece, by looking at pictures the all seem to have a seperate but section.
