Cosmeticly 7/10
Mechanically 10/10.
You all know me well enough now to know I won’t sell you a pup even in the form of a 50 year old reel. This one has had a complete full service with a fresh smear of grease and both spools have been (properly) fitted with brand new chenille and it’s functioning absolutely spot on.
(Tested it out yesterday on a little river for some hard fighting grayling and trout)
501’s were the answer to all our problems as far as closed face reels were concerned and they were imo the best model.
We all hated that synchro clutch and removing the AR pawl just gave it the ability to back wind.
These as standard do both jobs in one.
You have a back wind clutch on these that you set the tension on and just let it do it’s thing. It’s perfect!
Few little light marks and a very slight flat on the cowl seen in last pic but that’s the cosmetic side. It’s an absolute gem to use.
2 match spools supplied (brand new Chenille) 1 is the original very sought after spool with the bulged shallow surface and the other is a custom made aluminum spool which is very shallow and works amazing with 50yards of very very fine main line.
I would like £48 posted for it please.
