A great start to the pike season!

Due to another dreadful winter forecast i started my pike season a fortnight early on the Wye and was rewarded with a pb on a floatfished dead roach.

Great fish, nice steamlined shape to it! bet it fought like crazy this time of year too!
Bit jelous to be honest, I've been after one of them from the lake district for ages  Might take a drive to the wye this year if that's anything to go by.

Thanks for the comments gentlemen.

Jack the fight was heart stopping as i knew it was a special fish, but not spectacular. A few very powerful short runs and a massive head shake at the net - it was only hooked on one treble  - and she was mine.

I had a 15 later that gave me the best tail walk i've ever had though...:)

Lester - i've not fished the Wye enough times to claim to be anywhere near an authority on it, however in the normally clear conditions i am sure that lures or sink and draw deads would work very well, as would lives as well as deads.

I tried all manner of deads whilst i was there and had 3 runs, all on roach, if that's any help!

A real beaut.... I may have to try for one of those crocs very soon

Nice one mate
